Fort Worth Family's Thanksgiving Forever Altered by Husband's Fatal Death in Driveway
Thanksgiving, a time typically filled with joy and togetherness, took a tragic turn for a Fort Worth family. The discovery of a husband and father of two found dead in his driveway on Davis Avenue near Mississippi Avenue has left a deep wound.

A Neighbor's Rage Over Loud Music Leads to a Fatal Shooting

Discovery and Initial Shock

Amanda Fernicola, the widow of Oscar “Beto” Lopez, recounts the fateful evening. Lopez returned home with food for his family around 10 p.m. on Sunday. As she walked out the back door, calling for him, she was met with a horrifying sight. She saw his legs on the ground, and for a moment, she couldn't believe it was real. It was a scene that would change their lives forever. The sound of gunshots outside the home had already sent a chill through the air. Fernicola's surveillance cameras captured the moments before the shooting when Lopez pulled into the driveway for the final time. In the videos, one could hear the music playing, and it seemed that a simple request to turn it down had led to a tragic chain of events.

The Neighbor's Anger

Fernicola explains that Swinney, the suspect, had been upset about the loud music in the neighborhood before. This incident on Lopez's birthday had seemingly fueled his anger. When Lopez returned home that night, the two got into a verbal altercation that quickly escalated into a physical fight. Swinney then fired a handgun multiple times.Fernicola's screams of horror that night were a testament to the shock and grief she felt. She recalls vividly the moment she realized the severity of the situation. It was a nightmare that she and her family would never forget.

The Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Lopez leaves behind a five-year-old son and a three-and-a-half-month-old son, as well as a widow in disbelief. Swinney is now in the Tarrant County jail charged with murder. His attorney has not yet responded to NBC 5's request for comment. This tragic event has not only shattered a family but also left the community in shock. It serves as a reminder of the consequences that can arise from seemingly small disputes and the importance of resolving them peacefully.
